WELCOME TO DENVER!

  The
  Denver
  website
  was
  created
  to
  augment
  the
  original
  PMEL.ORG

  site
  with
  news
  and
  events
  taking
  place
  in
  the
  Denver
  area
  for
  the
  benefit
  of
  both
  in-state
  and
  out-of-state
  PMEL/Metrology
  members,
  keeping
  them
  informed
  of
  various
  social
  events
  taking
  place
  during
  the
  year.
  This
  website
  took
  on
  more
  significance
  with
  the
  transference
  of
  Lowry’s
  Metrology
  School
  to
  Keesler
  AFB,
  Mississippi.
  With
  Lowry
  AFB’s
  BRAC
  closure
  in
  1994,
  PMEL/Metrology
  operations
  as
  such
  ceased
  to
  exist
  in
  the
  Denver
  Metro
  Area.
  However…there
  remained
  hundreds
  of
  PMEL
  instructors
  and
  staff
  members
  who
  settled
  in
  the
  region
  after
  having
  taught
  for
  years
  in
  the
  Metrology
School prior to having retired from the military.
  While
  Lowry
  AFB’s
  Metrology/PMEL
  school
  was
  still
  in
  operation
  there
  were
  numerous
  PMEL
  social
  functions
  maintained
  throughout
  the
  year,
  including
  an
  annual
  winter
  gathering
  during
  the
  month
  of
  December
  and
  an
  annual
  summer
  gathering
  in
  the
  form
  of
  a
  picnic,
  usually
  held
  on
  the
  Fitzsimons
  Army
  Medical
  Center’s
  picnic
  grounds.
  Instructors
  and
  school
  staff
  members,
  along
  with
  their
  families,

  would
  be
  in
  attendance
  with
  numbers
  reaching
  into
  the
  hundreds
  on
  occasion.
  There
  would
  also
  be
  well-attended
  monthly
  gatherings
  for
  those
  interested
  at
  the
  Sunset
  Lounge,
  a
  local
  pub near Lowry AFB.
  With
  the
  passage
  of
  time,
  attendees
  have
  fallen
  off
  the
  roles,
  resulting
  in
  fewer
  showing
  up
  for
  these
  events.

  So
  long
  as
  we
  have
  one
  or
  two
  in
  attendance
  and/or
  continue
  to
  experience
  site
  visitations,
  we
  will
  try
  to
  keep
  it
  up
  and
  running
  to
  honor
  the
  commitments,
  the
  involvement,
  and
  the
  memories
  keeping
  the
  Metrology
  School’s
  spirit and past alive!
